BLOG CANDEEEEE!

Hope y’all think it’s worth the wait.

(This will stay sticky at the top until the drawing – so check below for blog updates)

From the pre-entry (now closed at 29 comments) a lot of y’all said you want RIBBON! Well I found some and threw it in with a few other things….

To enter leave a comment on this post with some ideas for Free/Inexpensive Date Night ideas for me and the hubby. Last week I turned to a friend who is still in the land of the dating and she gave me some awesome suggestions (which we will definitely use in the future) and I want to put together a list for more ideas in the future. For extra credit – take a guess at what we did on our date night last night while the boys were at the G’parents. I’ll give you a hint – it was not dinner and a movie!

*****Edited to add – if you don’t have any ideas – don’t sweat it – but you can still guess at what we did***

I will have the hubby pick a name on Thursday morning the 19th!  If there are more than 100 comments, I’ll either add to the pot or split into two drawings! Soooo feel free to post a link on to your blog or tell your friends – the more the merrier!

  1. Awesome blog candy. Hmmm! Free or inexpensive date nights?? That’s a toughie. How about packing a romantic picnic basket & a blanket and heading off to some romantic location. A romantic Picnic & stroll along the beach if you have one near you. There’s always dinner by candlelight & a movie. We use to have friends over and play board games “balderdash” which was hilarious. Your last “date night” was spent catching up on much needed rest & relaxation is my guess. lol

  2. wow your blog candy was worth the wait! and I will be posting a link on my site!
ok cheap date nights for us is getting the kids to bed and playing board games! DH has 700! he likes to buy 2 player games for us and its fun to play games. I like no brainer games right now as I dont have a lot of brains after the kids are in bed 🙂
Also what did you do last night ummm… let me think.. Coffee and a Vegas show?
PS I just read Dovedri’s post I didnt know she said Board games till after I did! lol.

  3. One of the favorite things my DH and I like to do is to go to a fast food place and take advantage of their dollar menu and then take it to the local park on the lake and eat and just sit and talk. Nice, quiet and cheap, lol.

  4. Free or low cost date night, how about a nicee drive, or even a picnic with some of yourn favorite foods, nice bottle not to much $$$ of wine. What you did while kids were at grandparents house…well if it were me I would have just relaxed or did the deed..I know that is a bit much an I apologize for being so forward but if you are like me with 2 young kids you just never haev the time so no kids, quite house those are the 2 things I would have done. LOL

  5. Well, I always enjoy getting out and going for a walk maybe to the local Starbucks, then sit and chat…As for what you did on your date night…If it were me, we’d probably go and do some much needed shopping that is too hard to do with kids! Boring I know…but we’re so practical!! Enjoy and thanks in advance for your awesome blog candy, it looks so exciting!!

  6. your last date nite??? took a much deserved nap??? lol I don’t remember our last date night . . . dh works so much OT but is on vacation this week. with 2 teenage daughters we don’t have time or alone time to do anything. only 2 nore yrs & the youngest will by 18! woohoo! lol
cheap date nite – – – homemade spaghetti & meatballs (like lady & the tramp) and strawberries and whipped cream in the spray can. but that could lead to OT for the babysitter and cost ya more. but worth it. LOL!!!
    Tina

  7. Inexpensive date night – last one DH and I did was buy a romantic CD (Rod Stewart sings the oldies) and a bottle of wine. Got the kids to bed, then we slow danced by candle light. A little wine, some good conversation and necking – it was an awesome night. Can you walk somewhere? We also like to walk to a close by ice cream store in the summer and get a scoop together. Hope the ideas you get here inspire you – I’ll be checking back for some more for me to do as well!

  8. Date night? What’s that? Actually we so rarely go out, that when we do, we “do it up”. Some silly times out are when we have gone to the driving range or bowling together…silly fun since I am horrible at both!

  9. My hubby and I seldom have ‘date nights’, but when we do go out it’s often to a hockey game – WHL not NHL. A fabulous inexpensive night of entertainment…if you like hockey. If you don’t have or don’t ‘do’ hockey, there are lots of other local sports teams that offer inexpensive games….if you like sports.
Sorry I can’t come up with anything more romantic….have a Canucks playoff game on both tvs tonight!
    Heather L.

  10. Well…Sometimes we crack open a bottle of wine and have game night…cards, Yatzee, whatever…after that who knows?…..: )It’s free and a lot of fun! (Wink!)

  11. Free or inexpensive … well if the kiddoes can got o the grandparents, that always saves babysitting costs!! How about a walk and stopping for a nice coffee somewhere, while checking out many different garden ideas?

  12. How about a walk in the park and stopping for coffee or an ice cream cone on the way home. Be sure and hold hands on that walk!!!!

  13. when the weather is good, hubby and I go up to the track at the high school and do laps. sometimes we walk or I run and he walks but we talk. then we go to the A and W and have mugs of something and split some fries. Less than 5 bucks but with no kids at home anymore, I actually like to be at home watching the Pistons or Wings.

  14. hmmm… hello my new glamourous bloggette buddy!!! ok, you already know I’m crazy…so I hope you don’t mind what I’m about to say……your date last night – after dropping off the kids to Grams, you headed back home and went at it, crazy like rabbits!!! tee hee… that’s a very cheap date, and oh soooo worth it!! As for other cheap dates (cause you get tired of going at it like rabbits) – ummm… we head out to the $1 movies (cause we’ll settle for ANY movies out there), and just cuddle throughout the movie. How fun!! My n’ my hubby are going out next week (he doesn’t know it yet!!!)… Good luck, and don’t cha just enjoy those dates?!?!

  15. we like going for drives in the evening & checking out places we’ve never been before. or, be a tourist in your own town! be brave & go into that little deli you’ve seen, but never been. window shop down the street and hold hands, just walking & enjoying where you live.

  16. How about bowling?? It is not real cheap but you can keep the cost down if you share a picture of pop.
On last date nite ~ ummm did you stamp?? LOL

  17. Awesome blog candy! My hubby and I do cheap date nights every once in a while. We bought a local coupon book full of free and 2 for 1 deals. So we’ll use a coupon for dinner, another one for the museum, and another one for ice cream. My extra credit guess is that you went bowling. Thanks!
    Cheryl KVD

  18. For inexpensive date ideas, think back to when you were dating in high school. High schoolers never have too much money. Things like bowling, pool, cheap movie night, just going for coffee, board games, sitting around a fire pit etc.
Also, one of my favourite things to do with my husband is to be a tourist in our home town. Look for free events and attractions. Things like museums, plays, festivals, farmer’s markets, street fairs etc. In most communities I have found there is always a lot going on, but when you live there, you often don’t seek it out.
    Tamara

  19. Hmmmmm? Inexpensive dates? How about going to a coffee house or borders. Drink coffe and have an adult conversation with out kids constantly interupting. sometimes you’d be surprised what has been going on in your lives that you haven’t discussed yet. When my husband and I get a chance to be alone we like to go shopping, we don’t actually buy anything except maybe lunch or dinner, but we like to look at all the stuff we would consider buying when we do have extra spending money. Or sometimes we like to go to car dealerships and test drive cars just for the heck of it. We drove a nice camero once, boy did he have fun that day! Or sometimes we like to go to the park and swing on the swimgs and maybe have an evening picnic. Well there is a couple of my ideas.

  20. Cheap date? Watch the newspaper for free events- sometimes museums and galleries have free admission nights. But my DH and I are suckers for renting a DVD and just curling up on the couch with the lights turned low. Sometimes we even watch the movie!

  21. we dont do date night heheheheehe and the last time we went out was to pf changs at the district and walked up and down but we had the kids… oh well Ian said he wanted to go to a movie last night but my head was killing me… I feel ok today! Oh yeah you dont have to give me candy to be your friend!

  22. This is a hard question for me,since we live in a small town and no family around we have no babysitter. If that wasn,t enough my husband works in the oil field and is away from home alot.So when we do get a chance to go out it is usually with our friend that have kids as well. That way everyone gets a night away.I,m going to guess you and your husband stayed at home with out the kids and well you know!thanks for the chance.

  23. Cheap date.. I am going to guess last time you went bowling. Just a guess. 🙂 I think the last time we went mini golfing was so much fun and ice cream afterwards to celebrate the warmer weather. That’s cheap if you have a free sitter. 🙂

  24. Cheap Date nights… what about coffee and share a fancy dessert (they are often too big for one person anyways). I always enjoy anything with DH, when the kids are at home with a sitter, even doing groceries together can be fun, maybe a lame date idea, but is something that has to be done, why not do it together:)

  25. A great evening is taking the kids to Grandmas for a night.
Spend some time together, relax with a bottle of wine. Steak and salad for dinner…and maybe a movie to watch at home…all with no Interruptions!!….

  26. Date nights – well my husband and I try to do a movie (with a discount coupon) – and then afterwards go out for coffee and dessert somewhere.
My guess for what you did last time was either (a) stayed home and SLEPT or (b) stayed home and cleaned the house. i’ve been guilty of doing both those things on the rare occasion when we’ve had a babysitter for our little guy. 🙂
great give away. and i do enjoy your blog – you are so creative! thanks!
Beth (mommy to a busy 3 1/2 year old)

  27. We like to bike ride. Take some bottled water and snacks if you’d like and find a bike trail. It can be so relaxing because you won’t have to worry about cars and usually trails aren’t that strenuous. No t.v. or interruptions you can just visit and enjoy mother nature. Many bike trails will rent bikes too if you don’t have any.

  28. My husband and I use to take off on his motorcycle for the day and just head someplace different whether it was the mountains or the beach or just beautiful country roads at the end of the day we only spent 2 dollars on gas and whatever we ate. thanks for offering blog candy

  29. We are empty nesters! But we still do our favorite date night that we did when we had the kids. We would have wine and cheese in bed watching a favorite movie or have pizza in bed ! I can only think of what you did. Love your candy you are so sweet to offer it.
    Jackie

  30. Put the kids down for the night. Have a romatic dinner by putting a blanket on the floor, light a bunch of candles and turn down the lights. Put on that special movie or that special CD. Who knows what might come next. Enjoy your special night.

  31. What we’ve done is get a cheap disposable grill, a couple of steaks, salads, and have a romantic dinner at a local park. It’s so much fun lying on a blanket after you’ve eaten and looking up at the stars. If you are lucky, you might catch a falling star. Enjoy whatever you do. Just being together alone for a little bit is the most important part.

  32. Hmm, you packed some food and went to the park, lake or river bank, walked, held hands, talked and enjoyed time together? Whatever you did, hope you had a great time : )

  33. Make the kids their fav. meal and put them in another room with their own little table & movie… Then you and hubby can have your own “date” at your special table with “grown up” food… like steak and salad with bread, and garlic mashed potatoes… enjoy your time with each other…a date doesn’t mean spending money or even leaving home…it just means time to renew and be thankful for each other!

  34. we have been married for 35 years in May and we have celebrated EVERY month, not just the year anniversary. Everyone at my husband’s work even knows the anniversary number (419 this month). so we know all about free or inexpensive dates (and having had 5 kids it became doubly important for us to have away times)
I would suggest a picnic lunch packed but eaten at some unusual place. Say spread out a table cloth in a corner of a mall, or in a dept store at the table/chairs section(get permission ahead of time). Or why not set up a lovely, romatic table at McDonalds and purchase a happy meal and eat it there. How about setting up a VCR/DVD outside one night (if you live where it’s warm) and show a movie on the side of a garage, or house…complete with popcorn and sodas. How about a moonlit stroll around the yard that’s been lit with candles or twinkly lights after the kids have gone to bed. visit a store you have never been to, set a certain dollar amount that you would spend IF you had that amount and see how close you can come to that amount without going over it on a variety of purchases.
What did you do last time? I think you spent the night stamping….each other.
    Tsk. Tsk.

  35. My sister Melanie sent me here. She has just introduced me to blog candy, so neat! I hope that I win! Lets see…if I had a date night with my kids at my parents house…I think that you guys had a romantic night together.
If you live near a college or university, utilize their resources for your dates. Guest lectures, music recitals, art exhibitions and plays are common and are often free of charge. The quality can be excellent and the variety enormous.

  36. Cheap date night, I love to go for along walk, anywhere. take a blanket and a snack! but have a firm rule of no talking about, work, chores, and kids. I always find something new out about my husband this way!
    good luck!

  37. Free – take a walk together at sunset in the country
Inexpensive – take this walk and take a picnic with you, and find a romantic spot to sit down!
Sounds like a great date to me!

  38. Go to a campground or beach (some place where you can safely have a fire) and roast marshmallows & weiners. Thanks for offering such yummy blog candy.
    Linda SS

  39. My hubby and I love to drive to the lakefront and fly kites. We do this all year round. It is fun and relaxing…and what can be better than being in the outdoors????
Maybe, did you go for coffee????

  40. Date night, h-m-m-m…Well, since Jim and I have been around since before dinosaurs, it’s hard to remember, but it usually involved a walk somewhere, holding hands, stopping for coffee, (nowadays, you can do cappucinos or lattĂ©s) and usually playing a game of “What If?”. This is a discussion on what you would do IF you won the lottery. Variations include: a smallish lottery win, such as $50K; a really BIG win, such as $25M, and other amounts. Charitable donations, holiday plans, residences, transportation, donations to family members, estate plans, etc. all have to figure into it. Last time, I gave everybody in our families a new Honda CRV or Odessey (their choice) and we made plans to bring the kids and grandkids out to visit us at Christmas in Fiji, where we were golfing. Wonderful… Back to reality. Your date night probably involved getting some work done that you had put off because there just aren’t enough hours in a day when kids are involved. That’s often how ours ended up! Do take time for yourselves as people, not always parents. After being married 34 years, I know marriage has to be refreshed, or it wilts if left alone. Enjoy.

  41. An inexpensive yet fun date night is stopping by Cold Stone, picking up an ice cream treat and going for a walk along the river or trail. My hubby and I did this recently and it was so nice! We even held hands! I will try to guess what you did last night. Hmmm….. A concert?

  42. Fun blog candy!! I love inexpensive dates— during the warmer months- are there free concerts at your local park/outdoor venue? How about going to the lake/ocean with a blanket and some ice cream/dessert or wine? Do you live somewhere where you can walk in the evenings and window shop/people watch? How about movies and popcorn in bed ? Bowling for us in the city can be expensive, but maybe one game? 🙂
You will have to go on more dates with all these suggestions you are getting ~ have fun!

  43. My favorite thing to do on a datenight is to get the kids to a friend’s house (or to grandma’s or whoevers…) and to take a bath together in our soaking tub! We sometimes boil some frozen shrimp to eat over a salad, or have some other easy-to-prepare fare that can be eaten cold or at room temp. We keep it simple and no fuss… after all, it is to be together and we would rather be at home!

  44. I am new to the blog thing, but I like yours! For a great date night…my fiance` and I like to BBQ and sit out on the patio by candlelight and watch the sunset talking about special events that brought us together. If it’s cold outside and you are lucky enough to have a fireplace, we like to get comfortable in front of the fireplace and take a walk down memory lane. Lets you forget about all the hustle and bustle for a couple hours.

  45. Cheap date/inexpensive date go to your nearest book store (ex. Borders & Barnes and Noble) and get some coffee also read your fave books/magazines. Allow this to be a time of relaxation and casual conversation. Another idea buy a nice meal (meant for one) and divide it up for both of you. Drive to the nearest beach, park, or lake to eat and watch the sunset.
For your date night last night you both ate ice cream over a board game. hehehe after the kids went to bed.

  46. Great idea for this~ My hubby and I find paying babysitting costs use up most of our date night budget, so if possible, stay in! My hubby and I had a fondue night with some fruits, a melted toblerone bar, and even some of those wafer cookies (sooo good dipped in that melted chocolate). We then wrote down 10 questions we wanted to know about the other person and had them answer them. We’ve been married almost 9 years and there is still a few things we don’t know!
If you can afford a babysitter, then I would reccommend grabbing your camera and going someplace fun to take photos of each other/ yourselves doing fun things. Then go to the hour developer (Wal-Mart or wherever) and getting some printed. I also had my hubby do a scrapbook page about me – it wasn’t pretty, trust me, but it was so sweet to see what he loved about me. Of course you can do the same thing too!
    Bobbi-Jo Grunewald

  47. I stopped in to look at the gift card holder and was Wowed by the great Blog candy. date night…hum…went shopping? Thats what we always end up doing…lol
    ~Feather

  48. Oh, I hope I’m not too late.
How about, going back to the first place you met?
    A walk in the park?
Sorry, but I don’t have a clue what you did last night, but if you were out just the 2 of you then i bet that was a treat within itself.

  49. My husband and I like to catch matinee movies. These days, going out to the movies for under $20 is a “cheap date”!

  50. Me and Ross normaly just snuggle up on the sofa with popcorn and put in a fav movies for a day. great for the winter time..
