Freshly Made Sketches #200! Clean and Simple card

I know it's not often that I post when it's not a hop or Design Team day. I actually had some time to play along with another team's sketch challenge today. You might have heard of them – Freshly Made Sketches? They have the BEST clean and simple sketches and a very talented group of designers on their team.

I have a special birthday party to attend this weekend, and I needed to create a "guy card". Simple sketches are PERFECT for guy cards, because they just don't need that much!

Here is the sketch that inspired my card:

and here is my take on it:

Here's a few things I did:

Embossed background – I still wanted detail and texture in the card, but not too much. After I embossed it, I took my bone folder and burnished it down a little so it wasn't quite as "bumpy" as usual. I love the softer look it has. (I don't usually use "retired" merchandise, but this guy is a golfer so this was PERFECT for him. Plus, it is still available in my store)

Watercolor Ombre letters – Watercolor and Ombre are both still HOT looks in paper crafting. I brushed a little Mossy Meadow over some watercolor paper with my Aquapainter, concentrating the color closer towards the bottom.

The Sentiment Banner – No, that's not a wood embellishment, that's a light watercolor wash of Soft Suede ink on Watercolor paper. "birthday" is then stamped full strength with Soft Suede ink. I used my Paper Piercer to create an area where I could do some hand stitching with the Gold Thread. I love that little detail!

I hope you enjoy my take on the sketch. Who knows, maybe I'll create even more with this sketch this week.
