Tonsillectomy

Well it’s official! At 30+ years of age I am finally getting my tonsils out! Little worried, I heard it’s harder as an adult, but I do NOT want to keep living with this problem. My surgery is April 30th – lucky my Mom offered to come up and help out. Isn’t she the BEST MOM IN THE WORLD ( a little hiney kissing as she found out about yesterdays ER trip via this blog – oops – you know I love you Mom!) I’m very curious – have any of you had your tonsils removed as an adult? I read the recovery time is 10-20 days? Please no crazily gruesome, but I can take the truth…..

Also – anyone else find any inspiration in that adorable bedding from my last post? My last challenge I only had one participant – and she received a priority envelope full of precut SU cardstock! Let me know!

  1. Hey Jeanna,
Long time no talk. I hope life is getting easier with your sweet boys. I guess our lives are parallel cause I had my tonsils out as an adult. I also had my adnoids out, polyps removed from my sinus cavities and my septum reconstructed. It was stinking hard! There I told the truth. The worst was having my nose packed though and it doesn’t sound like you are having that. I had to breath through my mouth for a week and it fried my taste buds. For like at least a year nothing tasted good. Looking back on it all would I do it again? Yes in a heartbeat. I hardly ever get sore throats anymore. Seriously how sweet is that? I did have a real hard time adjusting to the anatomy change at the back of the throat. Swallowing is different. I had a lot of trouble getting things stuck in there for a few months, but mostly that is fine now. Every once in a while I have trouble but not often. You will do fine. Just make sure you have help for a few days. I also had some problems with the pain meds making me sick to the tummy. I couldn’t keep anything down for a few days. Lost 20 lbs though. Too bad they didn’t stay off. I just wish the dumb doctors would have done something when I was little cause I really suffered with sore throats and strep. You can do it! You will be so glad you did. (((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))

  3. Oh….Jeanna! I’m sorry about your tonsils! I had mine out when I was about four, so I can’t give you any advise or suggestions! I’ll be thinking of you, and praying for a successful surgery and recovery!

  4. My DH had his out at 37. He had no problems at all other than a little nausea right after surgery. Of course his throat was sore but with the painkillers he was JUST FINE!!!! LOL! A funny story is that he had this done in September before we were married in December. In his happy haze we went into McDonalds and he decided to apply for a part time job to get some extra money. Of course, he’s 37, dependable, they jumped on it. A week later he reported for work only to find out they wanted him to shave his mustache and beard. He said, not for minimum wage! So, the moral of this story is don’t apply for any part-time jobs the day after your surgery!!!!! Tee hee!
